SABOI WARNS UPND

- BY ROGERS KALERO

ZAMBIANS will always find it difficult to trust the New Dawn administration and be lieve whatever it says because they have been victims of its unfulfilled promises,’’ Na tional Democratic Congress (NDC) President, Saboi Im boela, has said.

Ms Imboela said unfulfilled promises and hypocrisy has left many Zambians regret ting their decisions of voting for the UPND wishing they had seen through the cam paign lies ahead of the August 12 elections.

Ms Imboela said because the New Dawn administra tion of President Hakainde Hichilema has made a num ber of numerous unfulfilled promises in the past, it was difficult to trust and believe it on the issue of establishing and locating the USA Africa Command (AFRICOM) office in Zambia,

Ms Imboela said the estab lishment of the AFRICOM in Zambia, will also allow the USA to choose puppet Presi dents not only in Zambia, but the entire Southern African region.

Early this month, President Hichilema said there was no foreign military base being

set up in the country, adding that it was unfortunate that there is a continued misinfor mation surrounding the AF RICOM.But, in an interview from Kitwe yesterday, Ms Imboela said, while Zambians may appreciate the statement from the republican Presi dent, it was difficult or hard to trust and believe him because he had set a precedent of not fulfilling his promises.

Ms Imboela said Zambians wanted a clear cut explana tion on the issue of AFRICOM and that her party, the NDC wanted a real democratic pro cess to be encouraged and initiated in Parliament unlike listening to the UPND leader ship that keeps on going back on their word.

“I can tell you that within the eight months of the New Dawn administration, many people have lost hope in it be cause they have been victims of unfulfilled promises, hy pocrisy, deceit and inconsist ency. So it is difficult to trust and believe in a government whose cadres and leaders keeps on going back on their words.

“So even what it has said about AFRICOM, we cannot trust and believe in it.. This is the more reason why we want a real Democratic process to be encouraged and initiated in Parliament unlike listening to the UPND leadership that keeps on going back on their word,’’ Ms Imboela said

Ms Imboela said the UPND ministers and their cadres should stop warning Zambi ans for commenting on AFRI COM because Zambia is their country and have the right to talk about things which threaten or risk the security of the nation as a sovereign state.

“The Minister of Defence is on record of having warned Zambians against comment ing on AFRICOM. As Zambian citizens and speaking on be half of my party NDC, I would like to warn the UPND to stop warning us for commenting on the AFRICOM. So I stern ly warn them for warning us. This is our country and we have a right to talk about these issues.

“And where we have doubts or limited information, they are even supposed to clarify and give people more infor mation and not make threats. That is why the proper pro cedure is that before such international agreements are signed, they should go to Par liament. That way, you are giv ing a chance for a real Demo cratic process to happen,’’ she said
