- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

NATIONAL Futsal team players are delighted that they will engage in a competitive match after more than two years of no action due to the Covid-19 pandemic which had halted most international futsal tournaments.

The Premier Futsal League has secured a friendly game scheduled for September 2022 with former African Champions, Angola.

The news has excited national futsal team players who believe the game against Angola would help them to develop because of Angola being one of the best teams in Africa.

Senior national team players, Kenneth Chulu said it is important for team Zambia to engage in a lot of friendly games which will help the players to know and understand each other better.

“It is important to play with the strongest teams so that we know where we are as a team because right now we have a lot of inclusions in the team and we need more friendlies to get into shape.

On the camping which was held last week, Chulu said; “The camping was fine and we learned one or two things and we are focusing on the next one. We are waiting for the Africa Cup qualifiers to come so we are not going to relax. We hope to meet soon so that we can keep understanding each other as players.”

Meanwhile, Wiseman Phiri who was among the top scorers of the 2021/22 Premier Futsal League season said playing friendly games with teams such as Angola will help the players to build their confidence levels.

“For us it is exciting that we will be playing Angola in a friendly much because Angola is one of the biggest national futsal team in Africa. Those guys know what they are doing so it will be a plus for us,” Phiri said.

“When we play friendlies with other countries it will be better because when it comes to qualifying for the Africa Cup or the World Cup, we will be required to face the best, so we need high profile friendlies to know where we are as a team.

“We need to play teams like Angola, Morocco so that we can be able to assess ourselves in terms of progress made,” he said.
