- BY KALOBWE BWALYA

THErepatriation of the body of a Zam bian student, Sampa Mwenya 25 , who died in China on April 30 is yet to be confirmed by the gov ernment, the father, Mor gan Mwenya has said.

Mr Mwenya in an inter view yesterday disclosed that he has not received any update from govern ment through ministry of Foreign Affairs on how far it has gone in repatriating the remains of Sampa.

Mr Mwenya said last week he had a discussion with minster of Foreign Af fairs Stanley Kakubo and was assured that the re mains of Sampa will only be repatriated back imme diately after government finalize arrangements.

Mr Mwenya however said he has been trying to get in touch with Mr Kakubo, but his phones were not reachable.

“Last week on Satur day the minister promised that he will get back to us on when the body was expected back to Zambia, but I can’t get through on his phone numbers, so as a family we are still in dilemma as the minister can’t be reached because his phones are off,” said Mr Mwenya.

Mr Mwenya further stat ed that he was informed that the minster was out of the country to the Unit ed States, therefor he could not state when he would be available.

He said the family t do not know anything about what is happening because no communication has so far been received from the ministry.

He has since appealed to government to update the family as it has taken too long because the family does not know when they are going to have Sampa’s body back in the country.

“As a family we are wor ried because there has been breakdown in terms of communication between us and the ministry, there fore we appealed to gov ernment to get in touch so that people are updated,” he said.

Last week Government released $ 20,000 to repa triate the remains of Sam pa who died in an accident while pursing civil engi neering studies in China.
