PROTECT LOCAL PRODUCERS, GOVT URGED

- By GIDEON NYENDWA

THE government is slowly relegating Zambians from the production chain by continuing to invite foreign investors even in sectors which should be reserved for local people, political scientist, Bright Zwau, has said.

Mr. Zwau said in an in terview that the foreign in vestors have come in almost all the production sectors in the country and this was disadvantaging local producers.

He said the public sector was also a production sector at some point but later it was reduced to a consuming sec tor, a thing that has landed a lot of Zambians into abject poverty.

“That is why the thrust by the UPND of inviting inves tors to come and invest in this country is worrisome because when you are talking about the private sector then you are not talking about your people,” he said.

Mr. Zwau said there was need for the government to tone down emphasis on for eign investment so that the country can concentrate on growing its own local production.

He said looking closely at what has been happening in the past few years, it was clear that Zambians were slow ly losing the modes of pro duction. Mr. Zwau said that people must understand that those who control the mode of production also control the super structure which is the politics. “When the foreign ers have an upper hand in the production of the country, they would also control what the leadership would say and they also control the direction of the politics in the country, a thing that Zambia should not allow,” he said.

He said he had been follow ing most of the tweets from government leaders and they were all about opening up Zambia to the outside world.
