‘CLOBBERED’ SOCCER FAN DIES

A SOCCER fan, Jacob Mkandaw ire Sampala, 31, who was alleg edly brutally beaten by police in Chambishi during a football match two weeks ago, has died at Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH).

His elder sister, Brenda Sam pala Kunyala, the confirmed his death. He died at KTH at 21.50 hours after being admitted in Zambezi ward for close to two weeks.

"The wishes of those police officers who brutally beat up my brother have come to pass, My brother has died after lying unconsciou­s in hospital for two weeks after suffering police bru tality during a football match in Chambishi,'' Kunyala said

Kunyala said the funeral gath ering was in Chambishi’s Zam bia Compound in Kalulushi.

Sampala, who was allegedly drunk, is reported to have picked up a quarrel with some police of ficers who beat him up before being thrown in the police van and locked up

Kunyala, said after his condi tion worsened, he was taken to KTH where he was dumped two weeks ago

Medical authoritie­s told the family that their relative was like he was brutally beaten or he had fallen from somewhere, but when Mr. Siandenge called the police officers in Chambishi, they confirmed the case and said the victim had hernia to cover up their brutality.

Kunyala said any police officer who took part in the beating of her brother must face the wrath of the law.
