PF censures Mweetwa over teacher recruitment

- By NATION REPORTER

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Me dia Director Antonio Mwan za has censured Southern Provincial Minister, Cor nelius Mweetwa over his claims that the list of indi viduals selected in the on going teacher recruitment is not part of those being recruited as teachers and health workers because he suspects the people short listed are not locals.

Mr Mweetwa said that his Administration did not par ticipate in the recruitment process and wanted the list recalled and process to start afresh.

But Mr Mwanza said Mr Mweetwa was the Minister, a politician with no author ity to deal with teacher re cruitment and should not be the one to choose who should and who should not be recruited.

“The people who applied to be recruited as teachers were not asked to submit proof of residence to prove that they were indeed res idents or locals residing in the places they applied from, so how does Honour able Cornelius Mweetwa know that the list of those who have been shortlisted are not residents or locals of Southern Province in the ab sence of proof of residence to show and prove that in deed they reside in Southern Province,” he said.

Mr Mwanza wondered if the minister was trying to using tribe or surnames to identify who was a local or not.

He said the Minister need ed to realise that Zambians of all tribes and names were residents or locals every where and not just in the provinces they originally come from.

“What is Mweetwa really trying to say, that only peo ple with surnames from his Province must be recruited in his Province? Is the Min ister saying that his person al friends and relatives are missing on the list, therefore it should be recalled,” he said.

Mr Mwanza wondered where Mr Mweetwa was all this time for him to bring the issue today when the names of the successful candidates were about to be published.

He also wondered if this was a gimmick to delay the recruitment process.
