GIVE GUIDANCE ON RECRUITMENT, GOVT URGED
GOVERNMENT should clear uncertainty among prospective civil servants who fear that the recruitment exercise may have been shelved following IMF delays to give Zambia a package, opposition leaders have advised.
Economic Freedom Fighter President, Kasonde Mwenda has asked the government to clear rumours that there is no money to recruit teachers and health workers by constantly updating Zambians on the delays being encountered in the employment process.
Mr Mwenda said the delay in the recruitment process was becoming a concern not only to people who applied to be employed but Zambians at large.
Therefore the government should go back to the people and explain what has led to the interruption, he said.
Mr. Mwenda said in an interview that the government should give the nation a deadline to the recruitment process because it cannot be working in perpetuity.
“The UPND government should show leadership, they can’t be working in perpetuity. They should communicate the
time line for the much anticipated recruitment, we want to see the accountability they talked about,” he said.
And Economic Front President, Wynter Kabimba alleged that the process which he described as a mess was now turning into partisan recruitment with some UPND
Members of Parliaments and District Commissioners questioning the credibility of the procedure being carried out by technocrats.
Mr Kabimba said it was now becoming difficult for Zambians to have confidence in the recruitment process especially that some UPND MPs and DCs wanted to usurp the powers of institutions mandated to oversee the process.
He said the interference by some UPND officials in the recruitment, a matter on which government position has not been made known to the public could be the reason why the deadline keeps being deferred.
“It is difficult to believe that the recruitment of teachers and health workers will happen this year especially with the interference from some members of the UPND like Southern Province Minister, Cornelius Mweetwa and Solwezi East MP Alex Katekwa in the process,” Mr. Kabimba said.
