Mushindamo Council chief introduces Friday assembly for workers

-

MUSHINDANO Town Council Secretary, Mary Lapukeni has called for professionalism and discipline among workers.

Speaking during an interactive meeting with Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) executive members, Ms. Lapukeni said there is need for workers to execute their duties in a transparent manner by following laid down procedures. “As union representatives, you need to inform the general workforce to practice high levels of professionalism, discipline and place the local authority on the map and set trends,” she said.

She said the union executive must encourage their members to use the right channels of communication whenever they have grievances.

“Let me emphasise that my management will practice an open door policy but staff should use the right channels of communication before resorting to seeing me,” she said.

Ms. Lapukeni has meanwhile introduced a Friday assembly for members of staff to learn more about the conditions of service to promote unity and professionalism at the council.

And ZULAWU Mushindamo chairperson, Happy Musukwa, has commended the move to introduce Friday assembly at the council.

Mr. Musukwa said the union is also concerned with some heads of departments that have a tendency of intimidating other members of staff.

“We pledge to work well with you but we ask that during management meetings, you inform heads of departments to stop instilling fear and intimidating staff,” he said.

Ms. Lapukeni reported in office on Monday to replace Ms Pamela Zulu, who has been transferred to Lavushimanda in the same capacity.
