NO TRADING HAS BEEN ALLOWED ALONG L/STONE ROAD

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

MONZE Town Council has noted with concern the trend by some trad ers who were slowly go ing back to the Living stone road to sell their merchandise.

However, the local au thority has warned that this will not be allowed and has reiterated that trading along the Living stone Road is prohibited.

In a statement issued by Council Public Rela tions Officer Kanchele Kanchele, Council Sec retary Frank Kalenga has observed that slowly, some ramshackle res taurants were coming up opposite Lions Car Wash but warned that anyone found wanting will be penalized using the pre scribed laws.

"As stated before the Livingstone Road is an international route which is used by tourists as well as local people traveling to and from our southern borders hence the need for us as a local community to maintain a clean face of the Central Business District (CBD)," he said.

"As a local authority, we allocated temporal trading spaces where everyone who was trad ing along the road was accommodated to fa cilitate for them to find spaces in the estab lished markets demon strating our resolve to ensure that everyone has somewhere to trade from therefore; there is no genuine reason for anyone to go back to the street," Mr Kalenga said.

He added," Our of ficers will be dispatched to the affected areas with strict instructions to confiscate any items, food items will be given to prison authorities and we will ensure that the owners are detained as there are no special peo ple in this exercise."

"We are tired of issu ing warnings which are seemingly being ignored by those who keep go ing back. Note that once found you will not be treated kindly," he said.
