ZAF BOSS PROMOTES AIR WOLVES

ZAMBIA Air Force (ZAF) Commander Lieutenant General Colin Barry has promoted the Red Arrows Rugby team nicknamed the “Air Wolves” for beating Kitwe Playing Fields 18-16 to scoop a record ninth national rugby championsh­ip.

The Air Wolves came from behind to edge KPF and retain the league title for a record nine times in a row. Arrows finished with 55 points, one point better than KPF who were determined to halt Red Arrows/ dominance.

Barry also hailed the Air Wolves executive and the technical team led by Coach Mwamba Chishimba who was promoted to Flight Sergeant.

Barry promoted the players to the next higher rank while all non-service players were hired as civilian employees in the defence wing.

Speaking at the official handover of the Zambia

Rugby Union League Championsh­ip Cup, Barry said the Air Force was proud of the team’s success.

The ZAF chief is hopeful that the elevation of players to Sergeants and Corporals will inspire a continuous winning streak for the rugby team. Barry encouraged the players to hold the promotions and employment in high esteem for the players to continue contributi­ng to national developmen­t.

And Chief of Training Brigadier General Kamima Nyirenda thanked the ZAF Command for the continued support and leadership which enabled the team to succeed.

Nyirenda also congratula­ted the team for making the Air Force proud by sticking to the promise made of winning the season. He said the Red Arrows brand is a brand of pride.

Club chairman Colonel Amos Chitembwe thanked the ZAF command for the continued support and promised to do better in the next coming season.
