US$62, 000 TRUCK LANDS MUCHEMWA IN TROUBLE

A LUSAKA businessma­n Francis Muchemwa has been arrested for being in possession of a FAW truck worth US$62, 000 among other charges which is suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) indicated that Mr Muchemwa acting together with Altitude Properties Limited did possess the FAW Truck registrati­on number BAR 9058zm valued at US$62, 000.

In other cases, Mr Muchemwa, aged 38 was arrested for being in possession of property worth over K12 million suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Mr Muchemwa of L/26392/M in Silverest area Chongwe, also popularly known as Commander Two, had been arrested and charged with five counts of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime contrary to section 71 (i) of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono said between January 1, 2015 and August 31, 2022, Mr Muchemwa did possess property number L/26392/M, a dwelling house valued at K2, 500, 000 in Silverest area of Chongwe.

He also said between January 1, 2015 and August 31, 2022, Mr Muchemwa did possess property number L/26395/M apartments valued at K4, 500, 000.00 in Silverest.

Mr Moono said particular­s in the third count were that between January 1, 2015 and August 31, 2022, Mr Muchemwa with Friltech Networks Zambia Limited, did possess property number L/28477/M/H and L/28477/M/J valued at K3, 400, 000 located in Silverest area of Chongwe.

He also said that Mr Muchemwa was also charged with failure to comply with the provisions of the Income Tax Act contrary to Section 99 (f) as read with Section 98 of the Income Tax Act Chapter 323 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particular­s were that Mr Muchemwa and The Frill Pub and Grill, between January 1, 2011 and August 31, 2022, did fail to comply with the provisions of the Income Act.

Mr Muchemwa is in police custody and is expected to appear in court.
