Mitete town council cancel CDF tenders

- By NATION REPORTER

MITETE District Council Chairperson Martin Mukonga has suspended all tenders under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) tenders on grounds that they were awarded to some Patriotic Front (PF) sympathisers.

Mr Mukonga said that he had decided to halt the tenders because some of the beneficiaries were Patriotic Front members whom he accused used to insult the UPND and its leadership when they were in the opposition.

Mr Mukonga was angry that UPND members were left out because according to him the members of the ruling party had the right and qualifications to be awarded tenders for the supply of goods and services to the council.

“I have decided to halt and cancel the tenders because UPND members have not been considered and only the PF have been awarded the contracts. These are the people who were insulting the UPND and our leadership when we were in the opposition. To bring harmony between my people and the council, I will put these projects on halt for 10 days until we scrutinize the contracts and see why they were awarded to PF members,” Mr Mukonga said.

He said even the strongest critics of President Hakainde Hichilema were awarded contracts and that he strongly objected to the idea of awarding contracts to the PF members who were ardent critics of the Head of State.

Mr Mukonga said he was suspicious that there was a PF cartel in the council that was awarding contracts to colleagues and those that belonged to the former ruling party.

He said this when a group of UPND cadres visited his office were they complained of being sidelined by the council in the awarding of contracts.

The irate cadres said action needed to be taken in order to rectify the situation because only PF members were benefitting yet the UPND members that was governing were suffering.
