Zambia names crack squad for Hockey World Cup qualifiers

ZAMBIA national hockey women’s coach Floyd Chomba has named a 15-member squad for the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup qualifiers slated for Egypt this December.

Chomba has retained almost all the players he travelled with for the Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Ghana earlier this year.

Chomba has also summoned Chengelo Chungu a pupil at Martin House who impressed for Team Zambia at the Hockey School tournament which was held in Zimbabwe in August.

Others named on the Hockey 5s women’s squad include the Lusaka Sharks goal keeping duo of Esther Mwale and Petronela Mwanza.

Chomba has also summoned Martha Nankala of Lusaka Sharks, DE Stars’ Beauty Mwachunga and the Lusaka Tigers duo of Brenda Kalunga and Falesy Zulu.

Nicknamed the “Golden

Girls,” the hockey women’s will look to secure qualificat­ion for the world showpiece by ensuring they finish among the top two at the tournament.

The qualifiers will be held from December 10-15, 2022 in Egypt with only the finalists qualifying for the 2024 Oman Hockey World Cup.
