Increased Budgetary Allocation to the Education Sector Overdue - NUPPEZ

- By NAMO PHIRI

THE increased budgetary allocation to the education sector and pronouncements made by Government with regards to the education sector were overdue, National Union for Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) secretary general Nelson Mwale has said

Mr Mwale said the budgetary pronouncements on the Education sector had been something that the teacher union had for a long time been expecting

He said education being the mother body for all of the country’s development in all sectors deserves more attention.

Mr Mwale has commended Government for putting much emphasis on taking care of the education sector.

He said the increased budgetary allocation of funds to the education sector had come at a good time as there are a number of areas that needed changes and improvements which cannot take place without funding.

And Mr Mwale had urged the government to prioritise the completion of uncompleted projects that were started by the previous government which have been left on 70 to 90 percent to be completed.

He said the increased allocation to the education sector should also cater for the building of houses especially for the just recruited teachers as well those that government is scheduled to employ.

Mr Mwale said issues of lack of proper accommodation had for a long time been topical and the increased funding to the education said should address them.

He noted that the reasons why most teachers had a tendency to run away from rural areas when they are posted is because of lack of accommodation.

Mr Mwale said provision of good accommodation would motivate the teachers in rural areas not to flee from their posts.
