TAKE KEEN INTEREST IN CDF PROCEDURES, SYAKALIMA URGES TEACHERS

- By ROGERS KALERO

TEACHERS must take a keen interest in knowing the procedure of accessing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) so that schools could apply for funding in the procurement of desks,’ Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has said

And Mr Syakalima has said the country currently has 21, 000 teachers who will be promoted following the upgrading of their qualifications.

Mr Syakalima said Government wanted to ensure that all schools have adequate desks by next year hence the reason it was expecting teachers to familiarise themselves with CDF

Mr Siakalima said yesterday when he met teachers and Head teachers at Hellen Kaunda Secondary School in Kitwe that the new dawn administration wanted to ensure that no child sits on the floor when accessing education

“As a new dawn administration, we promised Zambians quality education and this quality education means that all schools’ necessities should be provided. One of the school necessities include desks. We want to ensure that no child sits on the floor when accessing education

Mr Syakalima said the country has 21, 000 teachers who will be promoted following the upgrading of their qualifications.

Mr Syakalima said the promotion of the teachers will start next year to motivate them as they execute their duties, saying the backlog of teachers who were yet to be promoted was as a result of the failure by past Governments to promote deserving teachers.

“We have a backlog of 21, 000 teachers who are yet to be promoted and this is why Government wants to start afresh by starting the upgrading process,” he said.

Mr Syakalima also urged teachers to be proud of their profession as they commemorate Teachers Day today saying they play a vital role in the development of the country hence the need to be proud of their career
