People will decide UPND’s fate not criticism – M’membe

-

NO matter how we criticise the United Party for National Development (UPND) it won’t work if they manage well the affairs of the country and people benefit, Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe has said.

He said if the people get what they were promised and start living well, no matter how the opposition criticise the UPND, it won’t work.

He has however stated that no matter how much President Hakainde Hichilema and his ruling party claim to be doing well when the people’s living conditions are not improving, it won’t work either.

He said it is not what the opposition say that matters nor what the UPND claim but what the people get.

“So you can’t lie your way into this. Yes, you can cheat people to get power, but you cannot cheat about progress in people’s lives because they live it,” said Dr Mmembe during a live radio programme on Solwezi FCC radio.

He said the policies the new dawn administration has put in place are those that will enrich the multinational companies and not the indigenous Zambians. He said Zambia is at the verge of losing its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity because of bringing forces that killed people that fought for it. He has advised Zambians to be careful going forward and analyse things and come to their conclusion before making another mistake.

On the International Monetary Fund (IMF) package, Dr M’membe said “it’s not the first time Zambia has gone on an IMF bailout plan, and we are not the first country to have this programme. The results are known, they are not a secret. He revealed that the previous regime did not go for it because they did not want to agree to the terms.

Dr M’membe also advised North-Westerners to be on high alert economically by protecting their natural resources. He said the resources the province is endowed with will one day finish without anything to point at.

He said there is need to develop leadership that will stand protect the interests of the people in the province.

“And this leadership should cut across, traditional, civic, church, name it because these resources will one day finish,” he said. Dr M’membe said at the rate things are moving at, soon the province will be like the Copperbelt.
