Do not be corrupt, EIZ advises procuremen­t sector

THE Engineerin­g Institute of Zambia (EIZ) has advised the procuremen­t and purchas ing sector against engaging in corruption when pro curing goods and services because the resultant effect would be compromise­d goods and services.

EIZ president Abel Ng’an du has advised those in the procuremen­t and purchasing sector to endeavour consult ing profession­als when pro curing engineerin­g materials that the right specificat­ions and type of materials are procured.

Mr Ng’andu said pro curement and purchasing officials should ensure that engineerin­g profession­als were involved and consult ed during the procuremen­t process to deliver goods that were of acceptable standards.

He said the engineerin­g sector abhorred corruption because if tolerated, it could have devastatin­g effects on credibilit­y and performanc­e of the sector.

Speaking during the Zam bia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) confer ence in Livingston­e, Mr. Ng’andu said procuremen­t profession­als needed to take a proactive role and ensure that profession­alism was ex hibited at the highest level before, during and after pur chasing and supplying of the equipment.

Mr. Ng’andu advised the procuremen­t and supply sec tor to ensure that they exhib ited the highest principles of good practice, zero tolerance to corruption and achieve profession­alism at every level.

“As a profession­al there is need to follow the right pro curement stages to manage the procuremen­t cost, time and quality and this applies in all sectors including engi neering,” Mr Ng’andu said.

He said there was need to define the timeframe of the resources that were needed in the procuremen­t process.
