Do not be corrupt, EIZ advises procurement sector
THE Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) has advised the procurement and purchas ing sector against engaging in corruption when pro curing goods and services because the resultant effect would be compromised goods and services.
EIZ president Abel Ng’an du has advised those in the procurement and purchasing sector to endeavour consult ing professionals when pro curing engineering materials that the right specifications and type of materials are procured.
Mr Ng’andu said pro curement and purchasing officials should ensure that engineering professionals were involved and consult ed during the procurement process to deliver goods that were of acceptable standards.
He said the engineering sector abhorred corruption because if tolerated, it could have devastating effects on credibility and performance of the sector.
Speaking during the Zam bia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) confer ence in Livingstone, Mr. Ng’andu said procurement professionals needed to take a proactive role and ensure that professionalism was ex hibited at the highest level before, during and after pur chasing and supplying of the equipment.
Mr. Ng’andu advised the procurement and supply sec tor to ensure that they exhib ited the highest principles of good practice, zero tolerance to corruption and achieve professionalism at every level.
“As a professional there is need to follow the right pro curement stages to manage the procurement cost, time and quality and this applies in all sectors including engi neering,” Mr Ng’andu said.
He said there was need to define the timeframe of the resources that were needed in the procurement process.
