Get masterminders of Pamela kidnappers, Police challenged

- By ROGERS KALERO

THOSE implicated in the abduction of mobile money agent Pamela Chisumpa and 12 other girls should be made to face the law regardless of their political affiliations and status, political activist John Sichangwa has said.

Mr Sichangwa said the State should expedite investigations into the abduction of Ms Chisumpa and 12 other girls so that the culprits and their sponsors could be brought to book.

He said Ms Mumbi Phiri, the former Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general had been in jail for more than 200 days without appearing in court and that it was his hope that the abductors of the 13 females should quickly be charged and taken to court.

According to some sections of social media, the arrested UPND abductor Vael Muzwenga allegedly confessed that their clandestine schemes were being sponsored by some known people.

In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Sichangwa said the new dawn administration should prove that it believed in the rule of law by ensuring that those implicated in the suspected abduction faced the law.

“Well, if it is true that some known people have been implicated in the abduction of the 13 girls, then the law must take its course. Those who sponsored such an evil scheme must prove their innocence.

“We have had a situation of Ms Mumbi Phiri who has been incarcerated in prison for close to 200 days without trial on mere allegation of murder.

“So if Ms Mumbi is being treated like that, it is our expectation that those abductors should swiftly be charged and tried in the court of law,’’ Mr Sichangwa said.
