K1million disbursed to Manyinga cooperativ­es

FOURTY-NINE women and youth cooperativ­es in Manyinga have benefitted from the disbursed K1 million under the 2022 Constituen­cy Developmen­t Fund (CDF) grants component.

Manyinga Member of Parliament, Robert Lihefu handed over the grants to the cooperativ­es.

“As you may be aware under the new CDF guidelines, CDF is now divided into three components namely; community projects, secondary school bursaries, skills developmen­t and youth and women empowermen­t” Mr Lihefu said.

He said out of the allocated K25.7 million 2022 CDF, government intends to spend K1.9 million for empowermen­t in form of grants which has been made available to all registered cooperativ­es within the district.

Mr Lihefu, who is North-Western Province Minister, expressed hope that the grants would help the beneficiar­ies implement various projects which they had applied for, adding that beneficiar­ies will also increase their personal revenue as cooperativ­es.

“Kindly put these funds to productive use for your business sustainabi­lity and improved livelihood­s,” he added.

Council Secretary, Pythias Samakonga assured Manyinga residents of prudent utilisatio­n of the CDF.

Mr Samakonga revealed that 92 applicatio­ns were received from various cooperativ­es within the district who sought to access the grants component of which only 49 were approved.

“We received a lot of applicatio­ns, but we only had to settle for 49 accordingl­y,” Mr Samakonga said.

Mr Samakonga reiterated Government’s policy of empowering the most vulnerable groups such as women and youths.

He said the local authority being the custodian of CDF will continue to uphold transparen­cy and accountabi­lity in the disburseme­nt of funds.

Nzambi Muneni Cooperativ­e member, Maggie Samuzala, a beneficiar­y, has commended the government for the empowermen­t as it will improve their lives and business in their respective communitie­s. – ZANIS.
