DO NOT GIVE UPND SECOND CHANCE, SAYS M’MEMBE

- By ROGERS KALERO

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema and his new dawn administration must not be given a second term in office because his conduct in his one year in government has shown that he is an agent of imperialists and does not care about the majority poor Zambians,’ Socialist Party President Fred M’membe has said.

And Dr M’membe has said President Hichilema has allowed the USA to establish AFRICOM in Zambia to protect the interests of the US while supporting him to entrench dictatorial tendencies through the use of the US military forces to be based in Zambia

He said during a media interaction at AMIGO restaurant in Kitwe that the leadership of President Hichilema was not taking Zambians anywhere as evidenced from his conduct which was always aimed at impressing the imperialists

Dr M’membe said, while most Zambians were cursing or rubbishing the 2023 budget, the multinational or foreign investors like First Quantum Minerals (FQM) in Toronto, Canada were celebrating because it was favouring them

He said, any caring and responsible government will not make a budget to impress or favour imperialists or foreign investors, but will find a way of ensuring that local people benefit from the budget

“From the way, the UPND has been running the country, you can tell that we are not going anywhere. We are not going anywhere because those in leaderships are puppets of colonialists. Even budgets are being made to favour the imperialists. We cannot continue on this trajectory. No.

“Yes, People will say, let us give them chance. Yes, chance must be given, but not to give chance to a person who is taking us in the opposite direction. When you want to be taken to Solwezi, but a person is heading to Ndola, can you give him chance? Of course not,’’ Dr M’membe said

When reminded about the free education, the cooperatives, the employment of 30, 000 teachers and 11, 000 health workers, Dr M’membe said free education was a mockery to the parents and cannot be compared to the free education during the time of first republican President Kenneth Kaunda

He said the UPND government has not done anything worth being praised for by Zambians hence it was praising itself despite knowing that it had not done anything

“Successes will speak for themselves, you don’t need to sing your own praises. No. People will see your good performance and praise you. In most cases, governments which praise themselves are those which have lamentably failed to deliver like the UPND,’’ he said

And Dr M’membe has said President Hichilema has allowed the USA to establish AFRICOM in Zambia to protect the interests of the US while supporting him to entrench dictatorial tendencies through the use of the US military forces to be based in Zambia.
