MATAMBO EXTOLS UPND SUCCESSES
THE UPND Government inherited an empty treasury but has worked hard to stabilize the economy and reintroduce meal allowances to public universities and put the country on a path to economic recovery, Copperbelt Minister Elias Matambo has said.
Mr Matambo says the new administration through good policies and programmes such as free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and others were but a demonstration that the governing party was determined to change the lives of citizens.
Mr Matambo said the reintroduction of meal allowances in various government institutions was a landmark achievement and a clear indication of government’s commitment to address the challenges that students and the institutions of higher learning were going through.
He was speaking Monday at the office of the Kitwe District Commissioner (DC) before he addressed the students from the Copperbelt University (CBU) and Mukuba University to assure them of government’s commitment to improving the education standards.
“This new dawn administration understands the feelings and challenges which students in government institutions go through and so, it decided to reintroduce meal allowances to cushion the challenges students go through. So, despite having inherited empty coffers, we decided to work hard to reintroduce meal allowances” Mr Matambo said.
And addressing the students, Mr Matambo said the reintroducing of meal allowances was the beginning of better things to come in various government institutions and promised to address the various challenges and problems which the institutions were facing.
He said the New Dawn administration will also address the concerns raised by the students because it cared about the students and their welfare.
“I can assure you that you have a republican President who cares about the education sector and the students in Hakainde Hichilema. So I can tell you that because President Hichilema cares for you, the reintroducing of meal allowances is the beginning of better things to come,” he said.
And Mukuba University Students Union President Albert Mwansa and his CBU students representatives Matakala Matakala thanked President Hichilema for reintroducing meal allowances and pledged to support his leadership which had exhibited quality leadership within a short time .
The student union leaders also presented the letters of appreciation to President Hichilema.
