STOP CADERISM, CHISELA URGES GOVERNMENT

- By GIDEON NYENDWA

THERE is no law that the UPND government has put in place to deal with corruption and caderism that is why these vices are still rampant under the new regime despite the policy pronouncements from the president, Zambia United for Sustainable Development (ZUSD) president Lazarus Chisela has said.

Mr Chisela said pronouncements were just words and if they were not backed by the law it would be difficult to achieve any reasonable results.

He said today big fertilizer scandals in the ministry of Agriculture were being swept under the carpet in the light of all the pronouncements to fight corruption that were being made under the UPND leadership.

“There are no laws so the status quo is the same as it was in the PF,” he said.

Mr Chisela said a few days ago social media was flooded with ugly scenes of violence being perpetrated by UPND cadres during the filing of nominations in Lusangazi and Mkushi disregarding the presidential directive to end caderism because the pronouncements were not supported by law.

He said as long as there was no law which could be enforced, cadres and corruption would be even worse than it was in the previous regime.

Mr Chisela said the biggest problem that this country had was that people who were privileged to be leaders concentrated more on formulating laws that would keep them longer in power than the laws that would benefit the general citizenry.

He said Members of Parliament have gone to parliament and made laws that they have gone outside and called bad laws which do not make sense.

Mr Chisela said governments would come and go but provided that their country continued embracing the laws that they called bad then nothing was going to change in this country.
