GOVERNMENT has commended the church for complimenting its efforts in investing in human resources in the health sector.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical, Lackson Kasonka says government appreciates the exceptional partnership it has with the church in investing in human resource in the health sector.

Prof. Kasonka says without the church government alone cannot manage to deliver quality health care services as close to the family as possible.

The Permanent Secretary said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Lusaka Province Public Health Specialist, Chola Chonga during the 8Th graduation ceremony for the catholic sponsored St. Lukes School of Nursing and Midwifery held at Mpanshya grounds in Rufunsa District, on Sunday.

He said that as government is spending resources on human resource training for communities’ benefit, the coming on board of the church is a welcome move which should be appreciated by all.

Prof. Kasonka further called on the graduands to display their nursing professionalism in totality as they begin this great journey in their profession to satisfy the needs of the people.

“Am urging all the graduating nurses to ensure they go and practice what they have been taught, “said Prof. Kasonka.

Archbishop of Lusaka Diocese, Alick Banda said the archdiocese has always valued partnerships that aim at enhancing human wellbeing in totality.

In a speech read on his behalf by Lusaka Archdiocese Director for Integrity and Human Development Everisto Kabungo as guest of honour, Bishop Banda said the Archdiocese of Lusaka in its approach of enhancing integral development has resolved to put up infrastructure.

He said that the infrastructure development it has embarked on also includes improving the existing ones to ensure service delivery be it in education, paralegal and health facilities.

“We have embarked on infrastructure development and this include rehabilitating old infrastructure, “said Bishop Banda.

Principal Tutor for St. Lukes School of Nursing and Midwifery, Valeria Kabaso commended Government for its continued support to the institution since its inception in 2009 when it started with only thirty students.

Sister Kabaso further thanked the government for creating an enabling environment in which government and the church have worked together.

She said with the support of the church and government the college has managed to graduate more than 700 students.
