THE RESCUED 13 ABDUCTED MOBILE MONEY AGENTS NEED COUNSELLING

- Dear Editor, ELEMIYA PHIRI Lusaka.

PAMELA Chisumpa and the 13 abducted mobile money agents who were recently rescued by the neighbours in Lusaka's Chalala area need psycho-socio counselling. This is the logical thing to do considering the the long period the long period the girls were sexually abused and traumatised whilst in abduction.

The girls were alleged to have been kept in a house in Chalala residential area and they were rescued neighbours.

The abductees were detained for more than six months by the abductors for unknown reasons. The effort by the law enforcers, the police to locate the abductees let alone to arrest the abductors proved futile as the crime of abduction was perceived alien to Zambia.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Honourable Jack Mwimbu early this year disclosed in Parliament when giving the ministerial statement on the abduction of Pamela and that she was alive. Honourable Mwimbu further mentioned that the police were making progress in pursuing Pamela case and to have the abductors arrested.

It is alleged that the abductees were sexually and physically abused by the abductors. This can be evidenced by one of the abducted girls who recently gave birth a few days after being rescued by the neighbours in Chalala residential area.

The abductees were recently hosted a private luncheon by President Hakainde Hichilema and the First Lady Mutinta Hichilema at State House as a way of appreciating the gender based violence particularly sexual violence the girls suffered during the abduction period.

As the police continue probing the abduction of the 13 girls, there is also need to provide the counselling service to the abductees to prepare them psychologically as a way of integrating them into society after going through the traumatic experience.
