ARROWS SLICE NKWAZI LEAD TO THREE POINTS IN LPCA ELITE LEAGUE

RED Arrows sliced Nkwazi's lead on top of the Lusaka Province Chess Associatio­n (LPCA) elite league table to three points after they defeated Green Buffaloes in round-13 match at National Institute of Public Administra­tion (NIPA) Main Campus.

Before this encounter, Arrows had collected the maximum three points in their deferred round five tie against Green Eagles whom they silenced 5-1 in an early kick-off.

In the Buffaloes game, Internatio­nal Masters (IM) trio of Chitumbo Mwali, Richmond Phiri and Stanley Chumfwa set the ball rolling when they put Arrows 3-0 up on boards one, two and three.

Chibuye with Zambia Closed and Open champion Phiri edging veteran Fide Master (FM) Nase Lungu while Chumfwa silenced Eric Siamayuwa.

But Buffaloes reduced the scores to 3-1 when Mwape Mwewa beat FM elect Geoffrey Luanja on board four with Dalitso Chisopa and Timothy'Komodo'Kabwe sharing spoils on board five before lady Kabamba Bwalya sealed Arrows 4.5 points to 1.5 points victory when she defeated Women Fide Master ( WFM) Constance Mbatha on board six.

The back to back victories in a day took Arrows points tally to 24, three points below league leaders Nkwazi.

Nkwazi who are seeking for the ninth league title in 11 years, and had played a game more were too good against Green Eagles emerging 5-1 winners. IM Gillan Bwalya claimed a victory against Mutale Kalaba on board one while Candidate Master (CM) Godwin Phiri drew against Humphrey Luambula on board two and William Mwape saw off Kennedy Katowa on board three.

On board four, Justin Daka humbled Ronald Sakala with Dennis Mwape and Dennis Phiri drawing on board five while women national champion WFM Bwalya Lubuuto battered Naomi Mwale on board six. Eagles with two defeats in a row, remained stuck in the third position on 16 points.Also on 16 points are Napsa B, Buffaloes and Napsa A who occupied the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respective­ly.

Buffaloes before losing had a 4-2 victory against Arrows B in delayed round-five.

The other delayed weekfive encounters saw Liyoca register their first win of the season when they edged Napsa B 4-2 while Yofoso Kings and Kafue drew 3-3.

Later Yofoso Kings humiliated Arrows B 5-1 with Napsa B narrowly edged Kafue 3.5 to 2.5 while Napsa A had a 4-2 against Liyoca.

Yofoso Kings sits seventh on the table with nine points while Kafue are eighth on four points. Arrows B and Liyoca are now tied on three each after 10 and nine games to their names and are bottom of the table.
