NKANA, ARROWS LOCK HORNS

…as Zesco United date struggling Kabwe Warriors

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

AFTER failing to win any of their last six games in the MTN/FAZ Super League, struggling Nkana FC will target their second win of the season when they host in-form Red Arrows FC in today’s week-10 fixture at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Today’s fixture is seen as a turning point for the Kitwe giants who have managed three draws and three defeats in the last six games.

Nkana are 16th on the Super League table with seven points and victory over Arrows would ensure that the Beston Chambeshi-drilled Kalampa escape the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Arrows who dominate the Super League with 20 points two points ahead of second-placed Power Dynamos will seek to break the jinx of failing to pick maximum three points at Nkana Stadium since 2017.

Nkana have reigned supreme at their ground, having beaten Arrows 1-0, 3-0 and 3-0 between 2017 and 2019.

During the 2020/2021 season, Nkana snatched a 2-1 win over the Zambian champions who were stunned 1-0 last season.

Today’s clash promises a lot of sparks as Arrows will be seeking to maintain a winning run after beating Nchanga Rangers, Chambishi, Green Buffaloes and Buildcon in the last four games.

Nkana who have one of the weakest defences in the league will have to worry about the striking partnership of Joseph Phiri, Fred Tshimenga, Conlyde Luchanga and veteran James Chamanga who have scored 14 goals in nine games.

Meanwhile, Zesco United will seek to bounce back to winning ways when they face Kabwe Warriors at the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium after dropping points in mid-week following a 1-1 stalemate with MUZA FC.

Warriors will seek maximum points to escape the relegation zone after struggling with two consecutive defeats and three draws in the last five matches.

In other Super League fixtures scheduled for today, Forest Rangers will seek redemption when they host unbeaten Prison Leopards after last weekend’s defeat to MUZA while Nchanga Rangers host rejuvenated high flying Nkwazi FC at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.

Kansanshi Dynamos will welcome FC MUZA while Lumwana Radiants will visit Chambishi for a date with Chambishi FC.

Tomorrow’s league action will see Green Buffaloes facing Green Eagles in a lunch time kick off at Sunset Stadium, which will also host the Zanaco versus Power Dynamos fixture.

Buildcon FC continue their hunt for their first win of the season when they host Napsa Stars at Trade Fair grounds in Ndola.
