KUDOS TO POLICE FOR ARRESTING THE ABDUCTORS OF 13 GIRLS

- ELEMIYA PHIRI, Lusaka.

Dear Editor,

THE law enforcers, the police should be commended for arresting James Bwalya Mulenga and Mathews Sikaonga both aged 22 for abducting Pamela Chisumpa, the mobile money agent and the other 12 girls.

The two have since been charged with the offence abduction, aggravated robbery, assault and rape.

The country was last April gripped with shock following the abduction of Pamela Chisumpa. The abduction took place at Shoprite on Cairo Road on April 13, 2022.

Worse still, other 12 girls were abducted.

The abduction of the girls was alien to our country because such a case has never happened before. In view of this, the police found it difficult to trace the abductors and bring them to book.

The abducted girls were kept in a house in Lusaka’s Chalala residential area for more than six months. The girls were rescued by a young man in the neighbourhood.

The abductees whilst in abduction, they were subjected to physical abuse, sexual abuse and psychological abuse, among other forms of abuse.

The lives of the abductees were at risk. This is because they could have been killed by their assailants.

The motive behind the abduction of the girls is still not known up to now. People have more questions than answers on this matter.

However, it is utterly that the abductors are young people aged 22 who are in the prime of their lives. Youth should be focused in life by desisting from the criminal activities.

The arresting of the abductors by the police is good but there is more that has to be done. The police should continue investigating this matter.

The owner of the house in Chalala where the abductees were confined should also be arrested.
