Kambwili denies insulting ECL

CHISHIMBA Kambwili has denied ever insulting former President Edgar Lungu.

The former Roan Member of Parliament said he never insulted former president Lungu, and that his Bemba figure of speech ‘Ishi imbwa Sha bantu’ was not an insult but a description of behaviour of a person.

In this matter, Kambwili is alleged to have between August 26 and 27, 2019 in Lusaka, with intent to bring the President’s name into hatred, ridicule or contempt, published an insulting matter by word of mouth.

Kambwili denied defaming Mr Lungu saying “ishi imbwa” is an idiom describing human behavior and not an insult.

“I said “ishi imbwa” not “wembwa iwe,” it is not an insult unless if I said wembwa iwe which is an insult,” he said.

Kambwili in his defence explained that “Ishi imbwa shabantu” is not an insult, he denied the allegation saying at no time did he insult then Republican President, Edgar Lungu.

He told the court that the indictment is not connecting to the insults.

“If you read the indictment it’s not connecting to the insults,”

Kambwili through his defence lawyers applied to have the matter adjourned to enable him call three witnesses from Mporokoso to aid his defence.

Kambwili is alleged to have said, “Noti ishi imbwa shabantu yaleikala fye Ku Chawama elo yamona ste ati ntandale icalo, eko baita fye kuya. Kuti washo umutengo wabunga balelwa 150 Waya? The court has adjourned the case to December 3, 2022 for continued defence.
