GBM, You Have A Long Walk to State House

- Dear Editor, Mike Chungu

Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) one of the PF senior officials seeking the PF ticket to run for State House announced his second mission: win the 2026 Presidential elections so that President HH does not secure the second term (Daily Nation, November 2 2022).

Prior to 2021 elections, GBM dumped the UPND where he was Deputy President to HH and re-joined the PF.

He immediately launched his first mission which was to ensure that HH failed to win the Presidency of the country. In this mission, he threw in all the resources including emotional energy, cash, ethic propaganda and vulgar language, but sadly, he failed.

So, when he recently launched his second mission, I felt this mission is more complex than the first mission. Even If the ballot would only carry GMB versus his former boss, HH, and other opposition leaders support the candidature of GBM, UPND will start celebrating victory even before the polling stations are closed.

This is because the contest won’t be about campaign resources, but character. GBM has serious character deficits such as lack of humility and integrity.

So far, these vices have tended to dominate his political life. When he left PF for the UPND, there were many unprintable things he said on President Lungu and the PF.

When he switched camps from the UPND back to the PF, he just copied the same unprintable things and directed them against the UPND. His campaign template is well known.

It is bragging big about his political clout and wealth. If PF takes his second mission seriously, the party will do so at its peril. You will remember my simple counsel.
