BUFFALOES COACH DEMAND CONSISTENCY FROM TEAM

- BY SPORTS REPORTER

GREEN Buffaloes coach Duncan Nyirenda says he is looking for a more consistent phase play as his team return to the elite National Rugby League (NRL) next season.

In an interview yesterday, Nyirenda said he would like to see the players adapt to the new pattern of play the club had introduced.

“I would like to see the players adapting to the new pattern of play that we have introduced. The pattern we have will apply in the elite league next season. The team’s performance has been good in cup games and responds well to all training,” Nyirenda said.

He said since winning promotion from the Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) presidential league, the team has been always improving and that there was a good progress.

Nyirenda, who is also Zambia 14s team manager, said the team had been taking each game seriously.

Despite not taking part in the game 2021 rugby season, Buffaloes has shown some prowess in cup games against elite teams.

Buffaloes were runners up at the Nchanga 7s before reached the quarter finals at Diggers 7s and won a plate trophy at Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF)-Zanaco American tournament.

Last weekend, the Zambia Army-sponsored team settled for the silver medal at the Red Arrows Independence Challenge 7s tournament in Lusaka.

Nyirenda said there was need for the team to stop playing in the wrong territory and start kicking tactically in future engagements.

He said the team needed to have consistency in their phase play and that the team had adjusted their set pieces and had got clarity in their attacking and defensive structure.

Buffaloes have since intensified preparations ahead of the 2022 Mufulira 7s tournament set for this weekend.

Nyirenda said the whole team would be ready to step up in the coming competition.
