JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES RELEASE MBUNDA BIBLE

THE Zambia Association of Jehovah’s Witnesses have released the bible translated into the modern Mbunda language with the aim of spreading the word of God among the Mbunda people of Western and North-Western provinces.

Spokesperson, Phillimon Kabulwe said the Mbunda people have for years had challenges of accessing the Bible written in their language because it was very expensive, making it difficult to understand especially by the young generation.

Mr. Kabulwe said the organisation embarked on the translation project in 2020 at the translation office in Mongu and worked closely with the Mbunda community and other scholars conversant with the language to ensure that the bible was translated in an accurately and simple manner.

“It has been very difficult for many people to have the bible in Mbunda language, there used to be one old bible which a few people would have access and too expensive for many and had archaic language which many would not understand hence that is what facilitated the translation of the Bible in Mbunda

He was speaking at a special event held at Kingdom Hall along Addis Ababa Drive in Lusaka to mark the release of the Mbunda and educational work undertaken for the benefit of the Mbunda people.

And Jehovah’s Witnesses Public Information Department representative for Lusaka province, Patrick Chitashi said there were about 890 baptised witnesses who speak the Mbunda language across 29 congregations in the country who would benefit from the translated bible and help people to know God.

The Mbunda translated Bible would next week be made available for free download on the Jehovah’s Witnesses Library App and the hard copies would be available in January next year.
