NKWAZI BEATS YOFOSO KINGS TO MAINTAIN A THREE-POINT LEAD ON TOP OF LUSAKA LEAGUE TABLE
CHAMPIONS Nkwazi humiliated Yofoso Kings to maintain a three-point advantage on the top of the Lusaka Province Chess Association (LPCA) elite league table after Week-16 fixtures.
The victory for Nkwazi at National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) Main Campus in Lusaka moved them to 36 points, three points better than second positioned Red Arrows.
International Master (IM) Gillan Bwalya and Godwin Phiri gave Nkwazi a 2-0 lead when they beat Payani Phiri and Christopher Chibuye on boards one and two.
However, Fide Master (FM) Chola Musonda of Nkwazi drew on board three against Samuel Mwale as the scores stood at 2.5 against 0.5 in favour of the Policemen.
On board four, Elias Musonda extended Nkwazi's advantage when he humbled Patrick Linda before Lemmy Chishala and Women Fide Master (WFM) elect Bwalya Lubuuto picked free points on boards five and six to help Nkwazi pick an easy victory. Arrows 6-0 Napsa B
Arrows after an emphatic win against Napsa B, also consolidated their second position stay with 33 points.
Arrows lined up with their star-studded team compromising (IM) trio of Chitumbo Mwali, Richmond Phiri and Stanley Chumfwa on first three boards.
And all the IM deliver the required results, with national men's team champion Mwali dispatching Alinaswe Sichone on board one before Zambia Open and Closed champion, Phiri silencing Lyapa Chisha on board two while veteran IM Chumfwa stunned budding star Samuel Mulenga on board three.
Other players who were on the winning side for Arrows, were FM elect Geoffrey Luanja who defeated Danny Silavwe on board four with Dalitso Chisopa edging Mcfalen Chintu on board five while Bwalya Kabamba took a free point on board six as Napsa B had no player.
Green Eagles also consolidated their third position after they defeated Arrows B, 5-1 to move to 22 points, also on 22 points are Green Buffaloes.
Fourth positioned Buffaloes had a 4-2 victory against Napsa A.
The loss for Napsa B to Arrows saw them remain stuck in the fifth position on 19 points, three points ahead of their sister club Napsa A, who occupied the sixth slot.
Kafue's 4.5-1.5 win against Liyoca helped them to dislodge Yofoso Kings from the seventh position.
Kafue now have 13 points, a point above Yofoso, who were defeated by Nkwazi.
Liyoca remained stuck in the ninth space on three points and they are level on points with Arrows B, sitting 10th on the standings.
In League two, Young Green Buffaloes has continued to lead the promotion chase with 41 points and are closely being followed by University of Zambia who are on 38 points.
GC Chess Club, who are placed third have 37 points while Lusaka Chess Club was positioned fourth on 30 points.
