MUZA EYE ABSA CUP SLOT

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

FC MUZA proprietor and club president, Keith Mweemba said the club’s target is to qualify for Zambia’s only cup competition, the ABSA Cup.

Speaking in an interview after FC MUZA came from behind to beat Kabwe Warriors 2-1 in a Week 12 fixture at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, Mweemba said the -based FAZ Super League outfit is always fighting hard to win the home games to qualify for the ABSA Cup.

MUZA are eighth on the Super League table with 18 points collected from five wins, three draws and four defeats.

Mweemba said MUZA has a youthful squad that can compete with any team in the FAZ Super League.

“Qualifying for the ABSA Cup is our ambition. When we are playing at home it is a fortress there but like every fortress, every time it had to be breached.

“We haven’t lost a game at home in a long time but we lost last week so sometimes records are good but sometimes these records can give you pressure so probably it was a blessing to lose to Prison Leopards home so that we can compensate by winning away from home,” Mweemba said.

Mweemba said MUZA will not fear any club as they compete in the top flight football league which has proven to be a very competitive league.

“Our ambitions is to compete. We are not here to participate. I have said it from the beginning. We are going to respect every team in this division we have to respect football, it is cruel so we have to respect everyone,” Mweemba said.

Asked how challenging it is to manage a football club in Zambia, Mweemba said; “It is very expensive to run a football club. Eden league is more expensive because of the distances but the Super Division, the distances are manageable but the demands are always high.”

Mweemba said he now spends more to motivate players for them to compete fairly in the Super League compared to last season when the team was competing in the National Division one league.
