Over 1, 000 Mushindamo farmers make deposits

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

AT least 1, 309 peasant farmers in Mushindamo have made deposits of the K400 required to start accessing farm inputs for the 2022-2023 farming season under the enhanced Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

Meanwhile, the district has started receiving the farm inputs for this agricultural season from the supplier, Export Trading Group (ETG).

Mushindamo district administrative officer Oscar Mugala said in an interview that 3, 800 small-scale farmers will benefit from the subsidised farm inputs to be supplied to the district this farming season.

Mr Mugala said the district has received 60 metric tonnes of Urea fertiliser out of the 570 metric tonnes allocated for this farming season.

"So far I think we have about 1, 309 farmers that have made their deposits as contribution towards FISP. This is out of the total 3, 800 beneficiaries," said Mr Mugala.

He said the district has already received 11.32 metric tonnes of D Compound fertiliser out of the 38 metric tonnes expected for this farming season.

"Apart from that we are expecting to receive 38 metric tonnes of groundnuts seed and 47.5 metric tonnes of soybeans seed and so far, 18.9 metric tonnes have been delivered," he said.

Mr Mugala has appealed to farmers not to panic as Government remains committed to ensuring that the farm inputs are delivered before the rains intensify.

He said the government has directed the supplier, ETG to expedite the process of delivering farm inputs to farmers because most areas become inaccessible by road because of the poor road network.

Recently, Chief Musaka of the Lamba people in Mushindamo appealed to the government to expedite the process of delivering farm inputs to farmers.
