Contractor works cheer chief chikanta

- BY MARTIN MASHEKWA

Chief Chikanta of Kalomo has appreciated works being done by local contractors who have been engaged by the council on various infrastructure projects under the Dundumwezi constituency development fund (CDF) 2022 allocation.

The traditional leader made the remarks over the weekend when Kalomo town council director of works, Chikumbuso Banda in the company of the local authority’s public relations officer, Mary Muponda toured several CDF projects in Dundumwezi constituency.

The chief says he is elated with the connectivity of Habulile and Chilala clinics to the national power grid and the construction of other infrastructure such as classroom blocks, clinics and housing units in Dudndumwezi constituency which largely is in his chiefdom.

“Yes I am aware of some projects in my chiefdom such as women and youth grants empowerment, the Nazibbula and Vumbe schools projects, the Ngole bridge, the electricity connectivity of Habulile and Chilala clinics. This is a good move and the projects are ongoing at a steady progress with the engaged local contractors,” acknowledged Chief Chikanta

And Mr. Banda has called on the engaged CDF contractors to execute their duties diligently to avoid their contracts being terminated.

The director of works observes that some engaged contractors are not following the guided works specifications which might lead to unacceptable standards and urged them to seek guidance with his office in case they face any challenges in the scope of their operations in the field.

Recently, the Kalomo town council awarded 13 local contractors on various CDF infrastructure projects under the 2022 allocation, a move that has elated Kalomo district contractor’s chairperson, Ian Tambula.

Kalomo town council secretary, Lisa Mpasela disclosed that both Kalomo central and Dundumwezi constituencies had a total of 116 projects alongside the disbursement of women and youth grants, skills bursaries and over 800 school pupils sponsorship.
