GOVT SHOULD COME OUT CLEAR ON LGBTQ ISSUES
THE Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has condemned in strongest terms the protest by Sistah Sistah Foundation which violated the nation’s values.
CCZ Secretary General Emmanuel Chikoya says in a statement that while his organization may not have full preview of the information patterning to the protest and the reason for marching, it has found the Zambia police position as a Public Relations stunt.
Fr Chikoya says by now, police should be aware that part of the activities of the Sistah Sistah Foundation globally includes that of helping to increase visibility of lesbians, gay and transgender people.
He said their position (police) gives more questions than answers because from the videos circulating on social media, it is clear that the message and reason for the protest was not anti GBV.
“We therefore wonder why the Zambia Police went ahead to allow such a procession that was characterized by vulgar language, inappropriate dressing and symbols of LBGTQ which is contrary to what the protesters had applied for,” said Fr Chikoya.
He states that such un-Zambian acts do not have and should not have a place in society, especially that sections 155 and 157 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia criminalize same sex conduct.
“Ours should be to uphold values and morals that will help both the current and future generations live in line with the Christian values on which the nation stands,” he added. He has called on parents and citizens in general to take keen interest in their families and promote as well build God honoring families according to Proverbs 22:6 which says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it”.
“We further call on the government to give a clear position on this matter that if not well managed may violate and corrupt our morals as a nation,” he said.
