Government records progress in enhancing women’s participat­ion

FIRST Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Malungo Chisangano says Zambia under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership has made great strides in enhancing women’s contributi­on in the political, social and economic spheres.

And Ms. Chisangano has praised Chirundu Town Council for funding and empowering 69 women groupings with over K 1.3 million under the 2022 Constituen­cy Developmen­t Fund (CDF) for various projects in the district.

Ms. Chisangano said President Hichilema has demonstrat­ed political will in implementi­ng progressiv­e policies and programmes such as the National Gender Policy, Higher Education Act, National Policy on Science and Technology and the Education Policy in ensuring that these policies are gender sensitive.

ZANIS reports that Ms. Chisangano added that President Hakainde Hichilema recognises the importance of gender equality in national developmen­t as outlined in the Eighth National Developmen­t Plan (8NDP) and the Vision 2030.

The First er of the National Assembly said this in Chirundu District today when she addressed scores of women, girls and men who turned up for this year’s Internatio­nal Women’s’ Day Celebratio­ns.

The theme for this year’s Internatio­nal Women’s Day Celebratio­ns is “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”.

Ms. Chisangano further said this year’s theme is in line with the government’s developmen­tal agenda which is anchored on the 8NDP and the Vision 2030 that is aimed at transformi­ng the country into a prosperous middle income nation as outlined in the UPND Party manifesto.

She explained that the Vision 2030 will position Zambia to be an industrial nation that will provide opportunit­ies for improving the well-being of all, embodying values of socio-economic justice.
