Woman, 58, gored by buffalo
A 58 year old woman of Siamabwe village in Sikalele area of chief Simwatachela’s in Zimba district has been injured by a Buffalo.
The local National Parks and Wildlife office in Kalomo confirmed having received a report over the incident and briefed the Kalomo district commissioner, Joshua Sikaduli to liaise with his counterpart in Zimba over the matter.
Lovewell Nsumo, a nephew to the injured Rosta Syakulipa, 58, also tells Zanis in Kalomo that the beast attacked his aunt around 07:00 hours yesterday in Siamabwe village and left her with a ruptured stomach and was rushed to Kabanga hospital and later transferred to Zimba mission hospital.
Meanwhile, Mapatizya member of parliament, Imelda Munashabantu has called on the minister of tourism, Rodney Sikumba to take urgent action saying the presence of elephants in both Zimba and Kalomo districts for a month now, has caused panic and havoc among the villagers.
“We are asking for quick action on these beasts. People are not free to move for fear of these animals. As I am speaking to you now, three school children have gone into hiding after being mauled by a buffalo this morning after it attacked this woman in the early hours, and a herd of elephants are still reported in Luyaba and Simwatachela wards of Zim
ba district and in the nearby Sipatunyana ward of Kalomo, please let us save our people,” Ms. Munashabantu charged.
The presence of several herds of elephants in Kalomo district has been reported for a month now leaving a trail of damage on crop fields and posing a possible food insecurity among affected households and restricting people’s movements.
By press time the condition of the attacked lady was described to be critical while frantic efforts are still being made by Kalomo wildlife officers to go to the area to arrest the situation.
