HH THE LAST LINE OF DEFENCE FOR PF, SAYS, SIMANGOLWA

...yet this the same person they want to provoke

- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

PF should thank President Hakainde Hichilema for taking measures aimed at cooling the tempers of his supporters who were ready to revenge the brutality they suffered at the hands of the former ruling party, Copperbelt based Businessman Mellbin Simangolwa has said.

Mr Simangolwa said the PF should not think those people they brutalized and terrorized during their reign are happy to see criminals who terrorized them during the reigns of PF walking freely.

He said to date, some victims of PF brutality are still living with bullets in their bodies and the people who did this to them are still moving freely because President Hakainde Hichilema has restrained his members from taking revenge.

“They should not think people are happy to see criminals who terrorized them during the reigns of PF walking freely. UPND members were tortured, women stripped naked and raped. This pain is still fresh,” he said.

He said PF should realize that so far Mr Hichilema has been their only refuge because as its stands, some UPND supporters are still bitter about what they went through during last five years of the PF rule.

Mr Simangolwa said the first thing President Hichilema did after forming government was to protect the Patriotic Front members from the wrath of the public the move that incensed the UPND general membership who otherwise had wanted to take revenge.

“Despite UPND members not liking this move, President Hichilema remained resolved to ease the tension and cool the tempers but unfortunately, PF members can’t see this and are trying to provoke the only person protecting them,” he said.

And Mr Simangolwa has advised former president Edgar Lungu to stop surrounding himself with political opportunists who are trying to use him to achieve their selfish political gain.

He said as former head of state, Mr Lungu should look at the bigger picture of promoting national unity as opposed antagonizing the current administration.

“He should realize that people surrounding him are political businessmen who can only survive when there’s confusion,” he said.
