ZBF axe General Secretary
THE Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) has suspended its general secretary Westie Chewe.
According to ZBF president Dan Chiteule, Chewe has been suspended as he is facing disciplinary charges.
Chiteule unveiled Chewe’s assistant, Limbikani Phiri as the new acting General Secretary.
“Limbikani Phiri has been appointed as acting General Secretary of the Zambia Boxing Federationth immediate effect,” Chiteule said.
“Limbikani was deputy General Secretary before his appointment. He will be deputised by Captain Gift Banda. His appointment comes into effect after Chewe was suspended. Chewe is facing disciplinary charges,” Chiteule said.
Chewe’s suspension follows the federation’s failure to send the women’s boxing team to India for the IBA World Elite Women’s Boxing Championships.
Four Zambian female boxers were scheduled to leave for India for the 13th edition of the Women’s World Boxing Championships scheduled to run from March 14 to March 26 in New Delhi, India.
However it is alleged that the federation failed to send the team despite the air tickets and the accommodation having been provided by the international boxing mother body IBA.
ZBF is reported to have failed to raise K248, 000 which was the total budget required to send the four female boxers to India.
Meanwhile, last month a team of ten Zambian boxers was not allowed to participate at the sixth edition of the Mohammed VI International competition dubbed “Golden Belt Series” despite having travelled for the games after failing to provide medical reports on time.
