IMWIKO EXCELS IN SCHOOLS TB DEBATE
IMWIKO Secondary School of Western Province has won in the third round of inter provincial Tuberculosis debate that was held in Kalomo.
The third round TB inter provincial debate saw Hillcrest of Southern Province competing with Imwiko were the later garnered 465 points against their opponents who got 454 points.
The debate was under the theme: should go beyond households.”
The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) has sponsored information dissemination on Tuberculosis through school debates on the disease among its interventions.
The finalists in this debate are expected to brace for a national quiz to be held on March 23 before the World TB commemoration on March 24 whose theme is “Yes! We can end TB; be involved.”
Meanwhile, CIDRZ national community coordinator, Hachintu Makomo has thanked the education and health ministries for partnering with the organisation in an effort to deliver messages that aim at ending the global TB epidemic.
And opening the debate, Southern Province health director, Carlistus Kaayunga said the government through the national tuberculosis and leprosy is accelerating the TB move in the country to achieve the global target of eliminating the disease by 2030 in line with the United Nations’ sustainable goals.
In a speech by provincial public health specialist, Brian Habashimbi, Dr. Kaayunga called for a multi-sectoral approach in an effort to eliminate TB by 2023.
