WOMEN CALLED TO EMBRACE AGRICULTURE TECHNOLOGIES
GOVERNMENT has urged women to not only embrace digital technology but also agricultural technologies.
Speaking in an interview at this year’s national international women’s day celebrations in Kabwe, Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri has advised women to embrace agriculture technologies.
Mr Phiri said this year’s theme “Digital: Innovation and technology for gender equality” calls for women to absorb technologies that will better their lives and the world at large.
He added that the agriculture sector attaches great importance to the role that women play in the country.
Mr Phiri said the world has advanced so much and this calls for women to apply
themselves to innovations and technologies that will help better their lives.
He has also called on women to introduce various locally grown food such as millet and sweet potatoes as well as different traditional vegetables to their family diet adding that it is boring to eat the usual food repeatedly.
And Non-Governmental Gender Organisation Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Chairperson Grace Sinkamba says during the international women’s day, there is much to celebrate about women’s achievements, yet everyone knows that there is more to be done.
Ms Sinkamba said that it is imperative to embrace equality and build a better world for women everywhere and collectively forge positive change.
Ms Sinkamba also bemoaned the scraping off of the ministry of gender adding that it was a major tool that women used to air out their views in parliament.
She has since appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to re-consider creating this important ministry that acts as a mouth-piece for women in Zambia.
