- By ANDREW MUKOMA

THE Livingstone District Health Office has launched the third (3rd) round of the Covid-19 vaccination targeting schools, markets and Churches.

And Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai has disclosed that it was the district's desire to have more than 95% of leaners be vaccinated.

Speaking during the launch held at the Libuyu Combined Secondary School on Tuesday, District Health Director Faceroy Nkole said that the third round which will run for 10 days from March 21, 2023 to March 30, 2023 is targeting to vaccinate 22,555 persons.

Dr Nkole said despite the City being at 71.8 percent when it comes to learners, only 8,151 out of 16, 392 eligible learners are vaccinated representing 49 percent. He said that this makes 51percent of eligible learners of 12 years not vaccinated, hence the launch.

"To help with school vaccination, we will engage 72 teachers in this campaign and we want to make an appeal to our DEBS, headteachers to facilitate the vaccination within the schools," Dr Nkole said.

And Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai said that it was the district's desire to have more than 95 percent learners vaccinated. Ms Muleabai said the district has noted that there is a possible threat of upsurge of Covid-19 as the pandemic has continued to evolve.

She said, therefore that the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccination campaigns has become very important.

The Mayor said that during the next 10 days, the District Health office is targeting all the unvaccinated population aged 12 years and above, all those due for second doze, those who have not received a booster and those in congregate settings such as correctional facilities.
