MAKE US PROUD, MAKEMBO TELLS CHIPOLOPOLO

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZAMBIA Sports Fans Patron Peter Makembo has called on the Zambia national team work hard to make the country proud as they face Lesotho in the back-toback Africa Cup of Nations fixtures with the first game scheduled for today at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

After hosting Lesotho in Ndola, the Chipolopolo will travel for the reverse fixture which will be played on March 26 in South Africa.

Makembo said there is need for the Chipolopolo to realise that Zambia has not competed at three consecutive AFCONs as they date Lesotho.

Makembo said the past struggles of not going to three consecutive AFCONS should motivate the players to fight for the needed results which would ensure that Zambia qualifies for the Ivory Coast finals.

He promised that fans will play their part to encourage the team to get the needed results as they face Lesotho today.

“For us it’s Go Zambia Go. We are always behind the team and we will never abandon our boys that is why come tomorrow (today) at 18:00 hours we will be at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to cheer the boys, Makembo said.

He said coach Avram Grant named a strong squad which is capable of getting the needed win when the players work as a team.

Despite having predicted a win for Chipolopolo, Makembo caution the boys not to underrate Lesotho who are searching for their first win in Group H.

“We are winning this game but the boys will have to be careful not to underrate Lesotho because they are also coming here for a win. They are yet to win any game so far and they will work hard to get a positive result,” Makembo said.
