NEW NORTH-WESTERN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LEADERSHIP SWORN IN

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

THE Chamber of Commerce in North-Western Province has ushered in new leadership after the election of the first was nullified and dissolved for irregularities.

Last month, Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) nullified the January chamber elections which saw Kayula Lombanya being elected as chamber president citing irregularities and set March 25 as date for fresh elections.

And in yesterday's elections, the chamber re-elected Kayula Lombanya after beating her only rival Edgar Makaliki in an election which was conducted by CARITAS Solwezi.

Others who were elected include Amos Kapi as vice president manufacturing, Margaret Phiri and Sichalwe Kachinga as vice president commerce and services.

Others are Stanley Musemangeji as treasurer, Lusekelo Mulusa, Imbuwa Twambo, Collins Mweemba and Chisola Sangambo as members at large respectively.

And Ms Lombanya said her executive will work towards promoting the private sector as it is the engine of the Zambian economy.

She said there is need to create a foundation for a sustainable economy for the province especially that the population growth for the region is 2.6 percent per year.

"And that can only achieve if we safeguard the wellbeing of the private sector," said Ms Lombanya during her maiden address to the chamber members after her election.

She said her executive will ensure that it runs with its vision of transforming the economic growth of the region.

She also mentioned that her executive will work in line with the 8th National Development Plan and the new dawn administration economic growth vision.

"Because the 8th National Development Plan talks of transformation and diversification," she said.

And immediate past president Mukumbi Kafuta pledged to give maximum support to the new executive.

"My duty now is to ensure that the new executive perform even better than we did," he said.
