Chongwe Christians celebrate Palm Sunday, preach peace

-

SCORES of Christians from five churches in Chongwe District at the weekend marched through the Central Business District (CBD) to commemorate Palm Sunday.

Congregants from Catholic Church, United Church of Zambia (UCZ), Anglican, Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ) , and Salvation Army observed the event with songs of praises and attended a sermon together.

Simon Kabole, a Pastor from Salvation Army church who conducted the sermon, encouraged all Christians in the area to be peaceful at all times.

Pastor Kabole said Christians have a responsibility to promote peace within their respective churches and other set ups in society.

“Do not just be peaceful when you are in church. Be peaceful even when you are away from church because we serve a God of peace,”

He stated that Christians should be identified by their peaceful nature in communities, families and workplaces.

Pastor Kabole further urged Christians in the area to also ensure that they play a key role in promoting peace in situations where misunderstandings are being experienced. He cautioned church goers to avoid exhibiting double standards in their way of life adding that society looks up to Christians as role models.

And a congregant from the Reformed Church of Zambia James Jere, stated that Palm Sunday is significant to Christians because it symbolises the triumphant entrance of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

Mr. Jere added that the day helps observers to renew their faith in Christ and their salvation as Christians.

“This day helps us who observe it to remember how Jesus Christ triumphantly entered Jerusalem as a sign of victory over his mission here on earth. It helps us to renew our faith in him and his word,” Mr. Jere said.

Another resident of Chongwe from the United Church of Zambia, Mazyiba Ngosa also implored her fellow Christians to continue observing the event as it helps them to receive Christ in renewing their fellowship as Christians. - ZANIS
