TION Kaloustian determined to prove herself

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

COPPER Queens striker Inonge Kaloustian says she is determined to prove herself after making it in the final 24-member squad that will play South Korea in two international friendly matches scheduled for April 7 and 11 in Seoul.

Kaloustian’s inclusion in the squad has not been received well by some sports pundits who believe that the ZISD Women striker does not deserve a spot in the World Cup-bound Copper Queens side.

The American born striker who played for Clark University in the United States before joining ZSID said she is enjoying the experience being part of the Copper Queens.

“It’s definitely been an exciting experience so far and I’m extremely grateful to be given an opportunity to represent Zambia. I’m just really thankful with the way the team, the technical bench has welcomed me so far,” Kaloustian said.

“Being called to camp and subsequently being called for the South Korea friendlies gives me ample time to prove myself. All I can hope for and all I want to do is to continue showing up for training every day and giving my all so that I can play with the best,” she added.

Kaloustian hailed her team mates and the Copper Queens technical bench led by Bruce Mwape for being very supportive despite being competitive.

Kaloustian believes playing in the women’s league is a good opportunity for her to adjust to the Zambian style of play which is very different from the other countries she has played in.

The Copper Queens are preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be held from July 20 to August 20.

Zambia will be making her debut at the Women’s World Cup where they will face Costa Rica, Japan, and Spain in Group C.

Being called to camp and subsequently being called for the South Korea friendlies gives me ample time to prove myself. All I can hope for and all I want to do is to continue showing up for training every day and giving my all so that I can play with the best,” she added.
