STOP DEMONIZING LOCAL CONTRACTORS, GOV’T ADVISED
LOCAL contractors must not be stigmatised or associated with shoddy works, but must be given enough resources and helped to build capacity so that they could carry out projects that will not only bring pride to individual contractors, but to the country in general,’’ Kamfinsa Member of Parliament (MP) Christopher Kang’ombe has said
Mr Kang’ombe said it was not fair to always associate shoddy works with local contractors when some foreign contractors whose works were pathetic as compared to the local contractors
The Kamfinsa MP and Patriotic Front (PF) National Youth Chairman said during the tour of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) developmental projects in his constituency that local contractors were not doing shoddy works, but merely needed to be given enough resources to carry out projects
Engineer Kang’ombe, said instead of stigmatising or associating local contractors with shoddy works, the best was to give them enough resources and help them to build capacity.
“I always don’t agree with people when they say local contractors do shoddy works because even foreign contractors do shoddy works, but we concentrate on our local contractors and turn a blind eye on foreign contractors.”
“Let us desist from stigmatising or associating local contractors with shoddy works, but instead give them enough resources and help them to build capacity to enable them carry out projects that will bring pride to the country,’’ Mr Kang’ombe said Among the projects which Mr Kang’ombe toured included Footbridge connecting Wusakile Police Camp to Ndeke Zimba,
Classroom Block at Wesley Nyirenda School, Ndeke Village Mini Hospital, Ndeke Skills Training Centre, Footbridge Connecting Ndeke G to Presidential
Others were a footbridge connecting Mulenga compound to Ndeke township, Site handover for Mortuary at Zamtan Clinic and market shelter at Kamfinsa
Mr Kang’ombe said the CDF projects were being managed by the Kitwe City Council (KCC) and was sure that the implementation will be properly done and to the expectation of the community where the projects were being carried out
He said the projects were being carried out to serve the people in various communities of the constituency and so it was imperative that they were done to the expectation of the residents in the area
