Chief Kabinga appeals for electricity

-

CHIEF Kabinga of the Bisa people in Kanchibiya District in Muchinga Province has appealed to the government to connect his chiefdom to the national hydro-electricity grid.

The chief has bemoaned the lack of electricity connection to Kabinga chiefdom as a sad development.

He expressed concern that he does not understand as to why his chiefdom has remained unconnected to the national electricity grid despite several efforts and appeals made to the responsible offices.

He told the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS) in Kanchibiya today that out of the four chiefdoms in Kanchibiya District only his area is not connected to the national electricity grid.

Chief Kabinga said many investors who had shown interest to invest in his chiefdom have always been put off by the lack of electricity in the area.

“The lack of electricity has greatly contributed to the slow pace of developmental activities happening in my chiefdom,” Chief Kabinga said.

He explained that the lack of electricity in his chiefdom has adversely disadvantaged his subjects from effectively venturing into various businesses that require electricity such as welding, salons, and bakeries among others.

Meanwhile, Abel Puka, who is Lulingila Ward Councillor in Chief Kabinga’s chiefdom, has appealed to Rural Electricity Authority (REA) to urgently consider connecting Kabinga Chiefdom to the national electricity grid.

The Area Councillor pointed out that most of the fish in Kanchibiya, Mpika and part of Kasama districts comes from Lulingila River in Kabinga chiefdom.

He stated that the government should quickly facilitate connecting the area to the national hydropower which will be a boost to the fish industry in the area.
