YANGO COMMITS TO DEAL WITH TRANSPORT SECTOR HITCHES

- By BUUMBA CHIMBULU

YANGO Zambia has committed to deal with challenges faced in the transport sector, as it rewards 250 of its drivers 4, 000 litres of fuel for providing a good service to customers.

According to Yango Zambia Country Manager, Kabanda Chewe, the company was aware of the current challenges faced in the transport sector and committed to alleviate them.

Ms Chewe said in an interview on Tuesday that this would be done by assisting drivers in various ways.

“We are aware that we have a number of challenges in the industry but as Yango we are very committed to ensure that we are able to alleviate those challenges and assist the drivers as much as we can so this is just like a first step in that direction and we hope that we can do more to our service,” she said.

As part of assisting drivers, Ms Chewe said 250 of them had benefitted from the 4, 000 litres of fuel.

She explained that this initiative was meant to appreciate the drivers and their service to both Yango and customers.

“We want the driver community know that we appreciate their partnership with us and that we are grateful they continue to sue the platform. So, in doing that we thought it was important for us to reward some driver, so these drivers are top performing drivers in terms of ratings.

“So we awarded about 250 drivers with fuel vouchers and gifts. The top 20 got higher fuel rewards worth K1, 000 each and the remaining 230 received K400 vouchers so in total we spent about 4, 000 litres reward of fuel to drivers,” Ms Chewe said.

She pointed out the rewards were based on the ratings and feedback from the passengers.

Ms Chewe stated that Yango intended to carry forward the initiative, although the scale might change depending on the criteria that the company was using.

“The first reward we did was end of last month under the same initiative. We just started but we want to be doing it periodically, preferably monthly,” she said.

One of the beneficiaries, Nicodemus Chileshe said appreciated the gesture by Yango, saying it would make movements easier as there would be no need to buy fuel for a while.

“I am very happy about this initiative. The fuel will help us to earn more because we ill not spend on it.

“I am urging the driver just to follow the rules because we are working as partners. Yango changed our lives so we need to perform to expectations such as being fair,” Mr Chileshe said.
